The pentacle

Five-pointed star surrounded by a circle, also called pentagram when there is no circle, is a very ancient pagan symbol whose symbolism seems unclear to many people. The pentacle first represents the balance between the 5 elements: air, fire, earth, water and ether (the energy in each thing), each branch of the pentacle representing one of them and the circle around it infinity and the link that unites all parts of the living. It also represents the human, the upper point representing the head and the other four points the arms and legs. It is the symbol of the spirit in harmony with the energies of nature.

Among pagans , who practice white magic related to nature, the pentacle is a particularly powerful protective talisman and a symbol of magic. It is drawn to banish negative energies, spirits and evil entities. It is worn on oneself to protect oneself from harmful energies and anything that could harm us. It also allows practitioners to feel connected with the universe, as well as to recognize the forces of nature, to be more sensitive to the energies that surround us. Wearing a pentacle also allows practitioners to remember their faith on a daily basis, to feel connected to nature and to remember their place in the universe. A pentacle is placed on the altar to protect oneself during meditations and magical practices, but also to symbolize the different elements and serve as a receiver for the beneficial energies that surround us. To use it, it is blessed or consecrated in order to charge it with positive energies and our intentions.

When the pentacle is placed upright , pointing upwards, it connects us to our spirituality and celestial energies. When it is upside down, pointing downwards, it connects us to the material world and earthly energies. By its very nature, the pentacle has no positive or negative meaning, because it represents the entire universe and what composes it. Because of popular beliefs that have distorted the meaning, many have a certain hesitation to use the pentacle pointing downwards. If you hesitate, use it only pointing upwards. Like any symbol, the pentacle symbolizes your intentions, the interpretation you give it, and it is better to always use symbols that represent the positive for you.

Does the inverted pentacle represent black magic, Satanism? Not for most pagans and practitioners of magic, for whom it retains the same symbolism, the same energy, regardless of the direction in which it is installed.

However, like any symbol, it also represents what is attributed to it . Thus, several recent religions, including Satanism, have used this symbol, upside down, to represent totally different beliefs. This does not mean that the pentacle itself has changed its symbolism or power, however.
